From November 21st to November 23rd, I had the honor of participating in the 2024 Black Men in Education Convening held in Philadelphia. As a member of the small percentage of Black men teaching in America, this event was particularly significant for me. It provided a unique platform to engage with fellow educators, share experiences, and discuss the challenges we face in the education system.
The convening featured a series of workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at empowering Black male educators. Keynote speakers inspired us with their stories of resilience and success, emphasizing the importance of representation in classrooms. We explored strategies to support our students and foster environments where they can thrive academically and socially.
The connections made during this event were invaluable, as we united to advocate for systemic change in education. I left feeling rejuvenated and committed to making a positive impact in my community and beyond. This experience underscored the need for solidarity among Black men in education as we strive to uplift each other and our students.
